I am looking to buy a Boer mauser bandolier, and I have identified a nice example I would like to purchase. Does anybody have any advice to what such an item is worth in South Africa?

Thank you;

J.I.W

I'd guess the common leather 12-pouch Boer bandolier would fetch between £150 and £400 (R4,000 - R10,000) from a dealer, depending on condition and whether it is named. Maybe less if sold privately. There are of course somewhat commoner - and very similar - British and UDF bandoliers.
I'd recommend you took detailed photos before you buy, and posted them on this forum for collective wisdom.

Thank you, your advice sounds very sound. On closer inspection, the bandolier appears to be what could possibly be an old handmade re-enactors replica of a Boer war type bandolier with strengthening strips stitched to the pouches (These features are detailed in OVSAC: 21) (The cartridge dividers of pat 1901 bandoliers are not seen). The item does however display some strange characteristics. The stitching found around the brass studs on the pouches is not seen on Boer war examples, and the roller buckle is another unusual feature. There is also what might be a Union Defence Force stamp on the adjusting strap, which would then disprove my replica theory.
The multiple holes visible on the back of the bandolier and the somewhat irregular spacing between the pouches suggests that the producer of this item might not have been the most experienced, which could be evidence that this item is indeed a replica. The wear and visible age makes me doubt that this was made recently.

My guess is that this might be for the Vergueiro Mauser, but it looks very hand made. The pouch holes look as if they have never held bullets and seem far too small for 7mm.
Suitable for re-enacting but not a collectable bandolier - in my humble opinion.

I must say that I agree with your view. I think it is possible that this bandolier was made for on e of the Boer War movies in the 80's, like "Gideon Scheepers" and the "Danie Theron" movie.
