The only good photograph I have of a Webley in British hands - this time, I believe, a Mk II. Held by one of General Buller's Scouts.

I believe British officer helmet spikes have suffered from the same affliction. I have never seen one in an original photograph, but I have seen any examples of such spikes being found in relic condition in the veld. All though I do understand that having a gleaming spike on your all ready large and easy to see pith helmet would not be favorable, and would make you an easy target, I still find it strange that I haven't even read of a mention of such a spike in any publication.

In this video, one of Forgotten Weapons excellent firearms history videos (ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tswjqQocbbA), he mentions that Webley could engrave your company's name and retail address on weapons if the batch you purchased was big enough. I believe that my particular example was made by Webley, and then sold to G.Hinton on Fore Street Taunton as part of a large batch of engraved weapons.

I would like to mention again that this revolver got into my hands along with an original ABW belonging to a British Soldier. It is believed that the weapon belonged to him. Once I study the diary, I will post what I find out.

Just to add that the 'arrow-in-U' mark below the 'diamond-in-U' mark was the Union Defence Forces' ownership mark. It was changed to 'M-in-U' in 1960.
